MerMay 2018: Naia

Personal project for #MerMay in 2018; merfolk versions of my original characters. The figures and props (including lighting effects) are drawn traditionally with ink, alcohol markers and white paint marker, while the simple background was made digitally.

This is Naia's portrait. He's a water wizard, and performs as a dancer. His tail is loosely based on a koi fish's. The conflicted content in his thought bubbles gives the illustration a flustered intimacy, that makes his personality shine strongly.

In 2019, this illustration was published in the Swedish comic anthology "Fantasi & Nymfomani – En antologi" from publisher Tihi Press & Production.
